Dirty Metals: Mining, Communities and the Environment
The report contextualises the annual global consumption of 'newly-mined' minerals (as opposed to those produced from recycling) for modern technologies and convenience items (e.g. cars, phones, jewellery, etc). Displacement is highlighted as a consequence of mining developments. Cases are presented from Ok Tedi (PNG), Tarkwa (Ghana), Rosia Montana (Romania) and Orissa (India).
